What is a tracking number?
A tracking number is a unique postal identifier and tracking number for the package. It consists of letters and numbers or only numbers. At each stage of forwarding a postal item, it is entered into a unified postal control system. Delivery services are guided by the tracking number or code. It allows you to track:
- sending a parcel
- passing through sorting centers
- being at intermediate points: at customs, etc .
- arrival in the city of the recipient
- receipt of the shipment
Different countries have their own peculiarities of the formation of the track code. For example, it could be a 14-digit number. International shipments have a tracking code consisting of numbers and letters. The first 2 letters determine the type of postal item, the next 8 digits are the unique number of the item, then there is one digit - the verification code. 2 letters at the end, correspond to the international abbreviation of the sending country

What is the difference between an order number and an parcel number?
Do not confuse the order number with the parcel/tracking number. This kind of confusion is especially common with Aliexpress buyers. The order number appears immediately at the time of its registration, even before it is paid. This is not a tracking number, but the number of the entire order, which may contain several items. This is an internal system for identifying store orders. For the buyer, it is only necessary in case of any problems for contacting support. You can see the order number for Aliexpress in my orders.
The parcel/tracking number appears only after the goods are sent by the seller to the post office. There cannot be a parcel/tracking number if the product has not yet been paid for or is awaiting shipment, since the number is assigned by the post office. Only the parcel/tracking number is designed to track the parcel. On AliExpress, this number can be viewed after clicking on the link in more detail near the order number. In the form that opens, the postal service and the parcel number will be indicated. In European online stores, the shipment number usually appears in your personal account some time after you paid for the goods or made a purchase.
What to do if the parcel has no updates for a long time?
There are some periods during which a shipment can get stuck for a long time without changing its status. In this case, you should not worry too much. This happens most often with the export status. You need to be patient and wait for the status to change.
Also, somtimes there could be errors while assigning a tracking code for an international shipment. In this case, all statuses occurring in the territory of the seller's country will be monitored, but when crossing the border, the ability to track the movement of the shipment becomes unavailable.
